If you do not know the size of your engine (and you are interested), post the code that is on the ID plate (on the left hand hinge pillar) and/or post the code that is pressed into the ledge/boss on the block just to rear of where the distributor goes into the block.
A 248 would have been standard in 1953 but a 228, 248, 270, or 302 could have been used as a replacement engine.
