It could be a bad torque converter or it,s not right for this engine. The 400 was designed for large high torque engines. It soaks up a lot of power. Check for vacuum leaks. The monojet can waller out the gasket between the throttle body & fuel bowl. If the vacuum advance is hooked up to vmanifold vacuum you might change it to ported vacuum & set the throttle idle position up a little.
