Were some of the tie rods in the 60s/70s the tie rods with the holes in them, if you could get one with an adjuster in it that would be better. Could you take one of them cut it off rethread to the oposite side then cut and rethread the adjuster to the current tie rod? It would get your cross steer to the other side. I have no idea about strength or if there is room to do it.
