Marlo,

The car steering gear is way different; the steering wheel might swap, but that's about it.

GL is right- the car IFS uses a bell crank & center-link deal, bolted to the center of the car cross-member.
You'd be looking at a complete "front end transplant" , which may not be worth the grief, even if it is possible, using the '53 car stuff.

If you were really bent on installing IFS, I'd suggest checking out the kits offered or using donor stuff that other guys who've gone before us (Phat, for instance) have found to be reliable swaps.
I'd also suggest having your stock truck column "adapted" for use with the new front-end: the cut the tube just below the toe-board, install a bearing and bracket, and set it up the attach to the "rag-joint" of a modern steering gear. Keeps stock look up in the cab!

Just my thoughts... (Had a '50 Chevy car; the car front end is the same '49-'54 & 'Vette '53-'62.)

It might be just as cost-effective to completely overhaul your stock steering.
