How much power do ya want and how much can you afford?
I built a 302 during the winter,a nice street engine, stock head, nice valve work but no actual porting, forged pistons, custom ground cam all the usual stuff. This is not a radical engine, has nice sound to the idle and still pulls strong from 1000 rpm.Cost me 3200 bucks for parts and machining, and I did all the assembly, built headers from scratch etc.Probably 250 or so HP,I don't really know for sure,it sure pulls my 37 Chevy pu scarey fast.
700 bucks spent on the stock head might get 50 more higher rpm HP.The 12 port head ,properly set up might go for 350 plus HP,and yes it might cost 8-10 thousand bucks to get there all together.
If you got the cash,go for it.
