You've pretty much got it. There seems to be some controversy over wire gauge. Some recommend 10 gauge as there are insistence were the HEI will pull enough amps to warrant it.
If you have a Tach connect it to the wire labeled Tach, other wise removed it.
If you have the full gauge dash I'd recommend removing the yellow wire from the starter solenoid. I know on my 63 it caused the amp gauge to show discharge.
