If you're worried about warping the valves when driving without an exhaust pipe, it's not really a concern on these engines. Being concerned about getting a ticket is another issue. Around here the cops are pretty forgiving with these old trucks and understand about driving to the muffler shop without any pipes or mufflers. Just keep your foot out of it.
