That test is just what I needed. The battery charger finally made the ammeter needle move into the charge side. I called Carter and a replacement generator is on the way. It isn't doing the job as the voltage at the battery is not indicating a charge when it is running. Everything else checks OK. Thanks for the tip. The ammeter is a repro and after the first one shorting out (my fault I think with the speedo cable being unsecured) I was suspect of the import gauge. The battery charger showed the deflection to positive right away.
