A stock generator puts out 30-35 amps and alternators are higher. The load actually put on your wire feed also depends on your accessories, and total amperage usage. I think the fuse idea is a bad idea. A 12 guage wire isn't anywhere near big enough anyhow. I would use a #8 at a minumum.
