I've used pretty much every engine Chevy has to offer. It all depends on what you want. For my regular driver I have a 77 Nova Concours with a 305 , and I've driven it for 185,000 miles without touching the inside of the motor or tranny. I change the oil in the motor every 10,000 miles, no problems and the tranny and rear end still have the origional oil.Yes it's true ,people tell me all the time I should change oils more often, but the point is, it's been reliable and trouble free,I also get 600 miles out of a tank of gas.
