If you have problems with stuff like leaves piling up on the engine, keep the hood closed and move it out from under the trees!
Seriously Jeff, leave all the vents open, that's the way they were designed to operate. The oil cap was a solid type that looked like a radiator cap not a breather cap like the later ones.
