I had a 261 rebuilt with 0.030 oversize pistons, new cam, oil pump, etc. All this was easily accessible. The 261 has a water pump shaft which is too long for the radiator position in an Advance Design truck. This has been solved by short-shaft water pumps available from vendors including the one who sponsors this page. How much room do you have between the block and the radiator in your Fleetline?
Others will chime in with a lot of useful info! 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.
