If you could post photos people would be better able to understand your questions.
If you will eventually be changing to a two carb set-up, just rebuild your existing carb and run it until you go to dual carbs (you'll most likely be asking about what carbs to use at that time, no matter what you do now).
The filter you are referring to is most likely the oil filter canister.
Does it look like the unit on the left of this diagram? By the way, what is the name of the Advance Auto Parts solvent?
