Robert, here are a couple of pics of the original retainer and it’s relationship to the rest of the parts as they fit inside the door.

There are two staked to the backside of the run channel and they slide into the recessed square holes in the retainer.
http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2553647530098611668OgkUwl I would make every effort to find these used and only as a very last resort would I try to fabricate them. If I did have to end up fabricating them I would use sheet metal and form them in a box break. The clip at the bottom clip and two square holes are important in that they securely anchor the bottom straight portion of the window run channel. There isn’t much room down in there and if they are not right then you will have problems with the window binding when you roll it down.
Now keep in mind, this is only one man’s opinion how to approach the task and there are always a few different angles of attack.
