The story is a little more complicated than just swapping any small block distributor into any of others. But you should be able to use any points type in any motor that does not connect the distributor to a computer.
Once you get into the later HEI stuff, and the more recent stuff interfaced with the computer, they may still physically swap, but making them work could be complicated.
