Every turnbuckle I've ever used had right hand threads on one end, and LH on the other. Turning the buckle one way lengthens, the other way shortens. Otherwise, the buckle would simply move back and forth on the threads, and not make a length difference. Look at a set of tie rods sometime. They're made the same way.
