The MPG is about the same with a 4.3 in a S-10 as a 5.0 or 5.7 would be in a full size. 19-22 mpg. Nothing to brag about.I think the problem is how the trucks are greared...3.42's or 3.73's in every one ive ever had. Alot of people with the 2.8 v6's swap them out for 3.4's. Some stock 3.4's make almost the same hp as a stock 4.3 and you would get more mpg but there are alot more proformance parts for a 4.3.
Scott..Call Bill Heard Chevrolet in Nashville. I bought a 5.7 crate engine there for $1200 a couple of years ago. 290 horsepower @ 5100 RPM, and 326 lb-ft of torque @ 3750 RPM on 87 octane fuel..you cant go wrong for that price.
