Aside from the desire for the assist, one of the reasons for converting to power steering is that I plan to run a big block in this truck, and moving the steering box ahead of the axle the way the typical power steering converstion does seems like a way to both solve that problem.

An option that doesn't move the steering box leaves me with the interference problems.

I've been thinking I should draw the whole thing out to get the geometry sorted out, but haven't done so yet.
