Okey dokey, spent many years around dealerships and auto parts stores and never had any confidence in rear main rope seal replacement done with the crank in place. I’ve never seen it done successfully so I’ve ignored any discussion about it for the last forty plus years. But, all that said, since I’m planning on pulling my ’50, 216 and having the short block rebuilt in the not to distant future I thought I’d give it another try and see if I can minimize a little more of the drip for the rest of the summer.
Read where on of the guys had ordered an “oil seal remover and installer” from S&J Discount Tools. I had a few seals laying around unused in broken gasket sets and figured for twenty bucks I wouldn’t be out all that much when it didn’t work and it’s leaking now any way.
Got the blister pack today, KD #482, says it’s got a, wick seal remover, installer, guide funnels, pusher, offset trimmer and neoprene seal punches. Well I can see where the 10inch long sheet metal screw with the ring on the end I suppose is the remover. And the Chinese finger is pretty self explanatory, and the blunt ‘A’ size screw driver I suppose is the pusher, and the razor blade scraper is I assume the offset trimmer.
But what the heck are the two funnels for? And how are the 4 3/4”x 1/2” strip of blue steel and two aluminum extrusions supposed to be used?
