I did the sliders on the wife's 58 Burb about 6 months ago. There is a piece of channel that fits on the back edge of the forward piece of glass. It has cats wiskers attached to it to prevent drafts by sealing between the two windows. I did not have any other channel that attached to the glass itself. I took a few pics of the process, I can post them if you think it will help solve your problem.
