| | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 | The previous owner assembled the steering column and I put the engine and trans in place.
The trans shift fine when pushing on the linkage.
When moving the column shifter nothing happens. I can get it to go into R and 2nd sometime but will not come back out.
I checked the clamps on the shaft(under the dash) and they both seem to be lined up with the bolt though the notches and the bolts install in the top of the clamp.
The shift lever lifts the shaft up and down but does not seem to engage in the box in the engine compartment. There is grease and dirt on the screws on the box and it looks like it has never been apart.
What might be out of place that would make the shifter not work?
Is there something simple in the little box that can come dis-engaged?
