Well, if all goes well, I'm going to be the proud papa of a '39 Chevy half ton later this week, and maybe a '37 too! I'm planning to build the '39 into a driver and I have some questions. Are the frames in these the same, at least the basic dimensions, as the early '50s AD half tons? The reason for this is because I already have a 1950 frame set up with mustang II front and Camaro rear. I want the '39 to be my driver so I'd like to put this frame under it if I can. The '50 cab will go onto a different chassis for a hard working truck for my dad. If this works then I'm half way home. Next I need to decide on a engine/tranny. I posted this to the HiPo forum, but I think I'll put it here as well. Would I get better gas mileage out of a 4.3L Vortec v6 or a 350 Vortec? I really think either will have plenty of power for my purposes (mainly just transportation, mostly highway miles) but they cost the same from GM at around $1800 and performance parts for the v6 will cost more. I'm looking to get 25-30+ mpg if possible. I'd like to run a manual OD trans in this as well. What would be my best bet, a rebuilt T5? Or does GM have a crate trans that would work for me?
