One degree over-advanced drops as much horsepower as 5 degrees late, once the best advance is reached. It also raises the temperature drastically above the best-HP advance point. Try retarding the timing a degree or two, and watch the temp gauge. If the dyno can register top horsepower, time it to that point, and then retard about a degree or so if necessary.
