Try this - Remove each of the spark plugs and place a small, clean piece of paper towel in each hole. Then turn the crank by hand.

Actually you only need to do this for the #1 cylinder to start. The paper will pop out of the hole at TDC. Before you start, loosen the two pushrods on that cylinder if you've already set them. Now turn the crank by hand and see what happens.
