one other option - I have a 59 1 ton and didn't want to change it, so I got kevlar brakes from praisedynobrakes.com. I think they have reviews on the web site. Supposed to be 40% more friction than the standard brake shoes. Pricey. I popped for them and just got the brakes set up (all new system) yesterday and will be a couple of weeks before I can road test. Then I will let everyone know how well they work. (I only got fronts - dunno if I am changing the whole rear, or just gears, as its a 5.26 ration now!)
