Dave, It appears to be the same lever I have on my 46. It shifts an "extra" transmission/gearbox that you apparently also have. A fellow 'bolter told me they were called a "brownie" ??? Got me. He didn't know the reason for them (nor do I), but I can tell you this much, when you shift it into what I'll call low range, any box turtle can outrun you! With your power going through an additional gearbox, you will have some extra whining and groaning. It is much more noisy than my 54. But I find it an addtional piece of interesting truck history.
