What I'm saying is if the wiring it has now would not do what you want to do when it was new, preserving it now may not have not have any value.
I do my own wiring, and typically I start by cutting everything away and just tossing it out. I do it that way because I'm confident the choices I make in rewiring it will be better than the ones I'm throwing away. If you can't come to that same conclusion you probably want to keep the current stuff at least until someone evaluates it.
