Here's a question: Has anyone or would anyone use a "gear splitter" in their 1/2 ton truck? A friend just gave me a 1985 SM465 transmission from a 1 ton truck he once had and will give me the gear splitter, stick, etc. soon. This unit sits between the bell housing and the transmission. I know the SM 465 will fit behind my L6 with some machining of the bell housing and bearing retainer, but I will probably use the original SM 420 that came installed as the splitter will fit it too. I have already rebuilt my rear end including new 3:38 gears. Is this worth doing? I thought it might be kinda cool. I still have a Saginaw 4 spd on the back burner too.
