In the April issue of Rod and Custom there is an article on an electric power steering assist system now available. It is very pricey but the concept is very interesting. A length is cut out of the steering column and the shaft of the unit becomes part of the steering column. Of course there are anchors and supports etc. I guess it senses applied torque and the motor inside reacts accordingly. The characteristics can be tweaked with a computer.
