You will find that most all of your questions can be answered here. Just at times you will need a combination of the info in the service manual, and what you learn here.
That is why I still suggest you find a service manual, sold by the regular antique Chevy truck parts places. Yes, it can be vague at times, but most of the time it can be very helpful.
I have two for my truck, one to use in the shop and take on long trips in the truck, and one for in the house, often fall asleep reading it.
