I work in the fastner industry and there is a product out their that will do what they are saying there parts will do. Matter a fact we all have them on our trucks it is a Castle nut~!
But seriously if they (the military) is looking for something better then they might want to look in to the NORD-LOCK Locking washers. Very simple design. This is a two washer system. The washer mate together with cam teeth. The slope of the washers is steeper then the pitch of the fastner. Thus, when the nut tries to rotate to losen the washers actually tighten because of the steeper pitch. Here is their website
