I'm using a '57 3.90 pumpkin out of a truck into my '49 axle, fits like it was meant to be there and now I'm open drive (shaft). I have a '62 3sp+od, the od=.7, so, .7 x 3.90=2.73, 3rd overdrive, @2100 rpms. I go 70 mph all day long, completed a 1600 mile trip this summer, a breeze.
