I'm a new guy to this forum and this is first attempt at jumping in on a conversation, so have patience. I have a '54 3/4 ton with the stock 235 and I am geting 18 to 20 mpg regularly. I changed out the 4:57 rear end by bolting in a dana 60 with 3:54 dropping the ratio a whole point. Adding taller wheels and tires, changing the Carb to a Carter and rejetting and using the appropriate metering rod. I use my truck for my daily driver, so I have added power steering and pay attention to my brakes. It was a pretty cheap fix and am amazed with the durability of the truck.
