There was a discussion on here a while back that mentioned there were some states that apparently had laws about entering a vehicle on the street side. Don't know how true that is, but it makes sense from the key standpoint.
On the weird side, my panel truck came with a spare set of doors, and both handles had locks. The whole thing looked factory and untouched, and the lock codes were the same on each cylinder.
