Some of the new stuff is really hard on steel, think rust and corrosion, and thus would be a bad idea.
I would not use either the new stuff or the old stuff, just regular wood chosen for it's rot resistance, like white oak, or southern yellow pine, or a number of the imported woods sold as semi trailer flooring, and some good stuff is even sold as decking for around your house.
