I just put a new thermostat in my 70 chevy,(307) The guy at the auto parts store sold me one with a temperature setting of 195 degrees. I immediately noticed that the temperature gauge was heading much higher than it would with the old thermostat in it. I don't know what type (setting)the thermostat had when I bought the truck. I went back to the store and got one with a temp setting of 160 degrees. Does anyone know if this will solve the problem or will I be making a mistake by putting it in. The truck ran fine before i changed it but I thought I would perform a little preventive maintenance since I didn't know how old the previous one was.

Thanks
