Don't feel bad, Piewagon, years ago I diagnosed an engine with a rod knocking and it was the fan belt. If I hadn't decided to turn the car around after I had the radiator, fan, belts and pulleys off and the noise stopped, I would have pulled the engine for a rebuild. That's the way it goes in mechanics sometimes. When in doubt, ask someone.
