I bought some stuff called right stuff from advance auto and brushed it on. i let it dry for about 30 min and wiped it with a clean rag. Then I just sprayed some cheap spray paint on it and left it alone. I just finshed the doors and when I hit it with 80 grit, I got nice clean rust free metal. The doors were sored outside under a tarp for about a year, but that was it. Hope this helps you.
