It is normal for it to grind going into first or reverse gear. There are no syncros on 1st in this trans. If your grease in the trans. is too thin it will make it worse. Before shifting into 1st or reverse shift partway into 2nd. or 3rd. & then complete the shift. This stops the clutch disc & trans. shaft.
