He's right, it *can* be repaired, but it's tricky. There must be some parts trucks out there! Same front axle for many
years, isn't it?

If you can find a machinist willing to do it, one option is to machine off the old threads, then machine a threaded ring
that slides/presses onto the spindle. Then weld that on. But it won't be real cheap, so if it was me I'd keep calling boneyards, etc.
