I guess I'll try brushing it on next time with a foam applicator brush, or use their own aerosol cans. I'm not concerned about the finish on the cast iron, just on the tin parts, like the valve covers and oil pan.

The engine is fresh from the engine shop, and I sprayed it down with a grease remover. I'll also try a mild paint stripper to remove the puddles and runs...use a bristle brush for better coverage on the cast iron. Thanks for your help.
