If you do not use the adapter and settle for the short shaft waterpump it will look like this:

The fan barely misses the balancer and is low in relation to the radiator. It works for me but only after adding a shroud to capture more wind. Individual results will vary. The adapter plate will move the fan up closer to the center of the rad. Here's another source for it:
