Yeah, I misread the question. The yoke on a TH 400 is larger than the stock yoke. I installed my TH 400 a long time ago ( around 1978), and was able to get a yoke from Dana that allowed me to use the stock driveshaft and fitted into the transmission perfectly. My TH 400 is a short shaft unit. I made my own rear mount for the transmission that bolts to the truck frame.
I was looking through a parts book for a universal relating to a different swap I was working on, and saw that the companies make crosses where one length seems to be for a small yoke and the other for a larger yoke. I think it would be worth the time to ask a friendly parts man whether they have something available to match the smaller shaft to the larger yoke. I never needed to pursue the option, but knew that it would be a lot less expensive than what I went through.
