Those 5-inch grinders are good for things like edge clean up prior to welding, shaping the edge of sheetmetal when fabricating and other small jobs. They're not very good for other things for the reasons already mentioned.
If you have large areas of paint to remove you either need a larger disk spinning slower or a chemical paint stripper.
