Just a word of caution....when you call one of the big auto glass companies and get a price (reasonable) on a windshield, be sure to query the source as to whether their installer has ever put a windshield into a 19XX vintage vehicle.

My installer showed up with the glass (quality) used my new gasket for the installation and in a matter of 15 minutes was gone like the wind. Wow...I was impressed. Unbeknownst to me, he had misaligned the gasket, used no sealer and was long gone when I discovered it leaked like a seive. I made the assumtion that a big name glass company who did mega-insurance work would leave me in a mess. They agreed to give it "another shot"....with me providing another gasket......decided to do a little more research and found another company who knew the pitfalls. Didn't get any satisfaction from the original labor charge and threw in another substancial amount for the old time pros. BTW...they did a good job....sealed inside and out, no leaks. One more instance when I failed to remember that "assumption is the Mother of Error."

My point....even if you use the pros, don't assume that the guy who is doing the work even has a clue. Don't be afraid to ask about any pitfalls and for the sake of your project, seek out a company that can get the job done correctly.
