I recently purchased a complete side window frame & glass assembly for my 1957 Chev pickup from LMC, (I really only wanted the frame - LMC was the only source I could find for chrome frames). But the price of the glass & frame assembled was only $10 more than the frame only. Since I already have tinted door glass, I removed the clear glass from the frame & installed my tinted glass. However, on disassembly of the LMC product, I noticed that the glass was held in place inside the frame by what appears to be a clear silicone adhesive.. The sealing around the glass-to-frame contact edges was what appears to be a black silicone of some type. As I was struggling to install the tinted glass into the frame with the window glass setting material I got from Chevy duty, I wondered why do it this way. It seems like using the silicone sealer would be faster, easier & just as effective. Has anyone ever tried this before?
