You are doing this the right way, by checking this board to find someone that has experience with the product. I won't bore you with a sales pitch on bedsides. Pro-Pick makes a quality part as does Mar-K. They are different.
As you look for a design that eliminates the tailgate chains, have you seen the Mar-K tailgate with hidden latches and center handle for your stepside?

It will be hard to beat our tailgate with the central inside handle, rotary latches, heavy gage folding straps that fold up inside the tailgate end when closed, and the ease of installation of the whole system.
