Careful there GLPerry! A 1954 GMC may indeed have a STOCK 235 in it.
No you say? Au contrare! Canadian GMCs came with 235s in em! Ah HA! Who knew?
#1) Measure the wheelbase from center to center 116" = 1/2 ton 125" = 1/2 ton longbed or a 3/4 ton
#2) Count the lugs on the wheels. six is a half ton regardless of wheelbase. 8 is 3/4 ton if 125.25" and a one ton if 137".
#3) In Calif, they remove the Serial number ID plate usually. If it's there, post the serial number which will read something like:
101-24-P (or C or S) then "Z", then a series of numbers.
