I'm in the middle of re-assembling my November-53 vintage 235. A few little issues have come up:
1. I ordered new M4F cam and lifters from Patrick's. The lifters fit, but are shorter than stock. They look a lot like Chevy V8 lifters - they lack the extended cup of the old ones. I guess I need new pushrods, right? (Yeah, I know - ask Patrick's, but it's Friday night and he's closed. I'll call Monday.)
2. I've got a sandwich head gasket with copper on both sides. What's the recommended wisdom for gasket compound for this type of gasket, if any?
3. I've done a couple of smallblocks, but this is my first Stovebolt. Any special things I should watch out for, do, etc?
4. I do plan to oil it up via a drill motor driving the stock pump. I've got that little line under the side cover that takes oil from the rear gallery to the center. I've check it to be clear; it is. It feed the rockers, right? There's the larger tube and banjo fitting. That tube extends past the banjo, and is open. I also have one that's pinched off. Any recommendations as to which method is best?
(I have a lot of spare 235 parts, BTW - I had a splash 235 in it, which blew a rod bearing. That block is gone, but I have
the head, intake, exh, etc, etc.)
Where else should I check for oil flow?
Thanks!
George
