Years ago when I used to rebuild carburetors, I would order the kit using the numbers off of the tag. You can get a kit without the tag, but the tag helped narrow down what the carb should be on. Some carbs came jetted for high altitude, certain emmission settings, etc. It was a convienent way of getting the correct kit for your application. It also helped narrow down the application and choke/float/jet settings.
I have 2 old Delco and Carter Carb books (about 6 inches thick) with all the specs, etc. If you would like me to take a peek for your info, send me the Year/make/model of truck and carb tag info, and carb number if you can find it.
